D200.00

The establishment of a Kankurang Centre in Janjangbureh is part of an  initiative aimed at safeguarding this Manding initiatory rite/tradition which is one of 43 cultural expressions and practices recognized by UNESCO as ‘Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’ in 2005. As cited in the UNESCO Proclamation: “The Kankurang is a factor contributing to social cohesion, and to the transmission and teaching of a complex collection of knowhow   and practices underpinning Manding cultural identity which is guarded by the initiates”
