  • ‘The title is for a legendary Mandinka folktale which saw a young girl become a wife of the King despite many odds stacked against her in her childhood. Besides the Sona Mariama story, the book comprised seven other folktales from all parts of The Gambia. But what they also have in common is that the stories are morally rewarding. They are meant to inculcate into the listeners, in this case, the reader, certain virtues for a more productive life in society.
